Medical housing

Furnished housing near Orlando Health / ORMC.

5 to 18 min from our homesClosest: Fruit Tree Home, 5 min

Orlando Health's Orlando Regional Medical Center is the downtown Level I trauma center and academic hub, drawing travel clinicians across nursing and allied health year-round.

A whole furnished house near your assignment beats a hotel room or a shared listing: your own kitchen, laundry, private parking, and a quiet place to rest between shifts, at a monthly rate that works with a housing stipend. Families staying near a patient get the same house with room for relatives.

The campus

Orlando Regional Medical Center is the flagship of Orlando Health's downtown campus and the region's Level I trauma center. The campus sits just south of the downtown core, and it is not one hospital but a cluster: ORMC itself, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies share the same blocks, so a travel assignment at any of the three, or a family keeping vigil at any of the three, starts from the same set of homes. The Orlando Health / Amtrak SunRail station sits on the campus edge, which matters for the few of our guests who prefer rail for part of a commute.

Because it is a trauma and academic hub, the campus draws travel clinicians across nursing and allied health all year, plus residents and fellows on rotation and clinical project staff on system rollouts. It also draws families: a long ICU stay, a NICU stay at Winnie Palmer, or a child's treatment at Arnold Palmer often means relatives from out of town who need a house with a kitchen near the campus for weeks rather than nights. Both kinds of guest end up in the same homes, for the same reason: the downtown-edge and west-side houses are a short drive away and cost a fraction of a downtown hotel over a month.

The homes closest to ORMC

Three of our homes are within about eight minutes of the campus by road, and all thirteen are within eighteen.

The 25th Street House in Holden Heights is the closest at about 5 minutes. It is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom bungalow with a full-size washer and dryer, keyless entry and a screened front porch, and it carries 142 Airbnb reviews at a 4.83 rating, the most of any home we have. It is compact, with small bedrooms, which suits one clinician or two colleagues well and suits a family of four adequately; we say so on its page. The Dollins House in Washington Shores is about 7 minutes away: four bedrooms, two bathrooms, blackout curtains in the bedrooms and a shaded lot under mature oaks, the right pick for a family or for two or three clinicians sharing. The Sunset Lake House, also in Washington Shores, is about 8 minutes away, a small three-bedroom bungalow with one bathroom and a carport under a live oak.

Behind those three, the Amelia House in Parramore is about 9 minutes from ORMC and has a bedroom with its own attached bathroom; the Meet & Play House, the newest house in the portfolio, is about 10 minutes and has desks in two bedrooms; and the Piedmont House, about 11 minutes, has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and parking for several cars. The Pine Hills homes are around 12 minutes, Downtown & Stadium Cozy Retreat 15, WinterPark Home 16 and Wekiwa Home 18.

Where the homes sit around the campus

The map places each home in its true compass direction from ORMC, with its distance from the centre showing the drive time by road rather than miles. The pattern is the pattern of the portfolio: the Holden Heights and Parramore homes sit close in to the south and west, the Washington Shores homes a little farther west around the stadium, the Pine Hills and Lockhart homes out to the northwest and north, and Wekiwa Home farthest west in Hiawassee.

Each home is placed in its true compass direction from Orlando Health / ORMC; distance from the centre is the drive time by road, not miles.

Two homes in different directions can have the same drive time, so use the numbers together with the neighborhood pages. The Holden Heights and Parramore pages describe the downtown edge; Washington Shores is the stadium side; Pine Hills, Rosemont and Lockhart are the northwest.

The shift commute

The drive times on this page are typical road-routing times without traffic, and a downtown campus is where traffic matters most. From the west-side homes the route in is SR-408 or I-4, and both slow in the morning and evening peaks; a 7 a.m. day shift and a 7 p.m. night shift both start against the grain of rush hour in a helpful way, because you are driving toward downtown as the heaviest traffic leaves it, but a 3 p.m. start can meet the afternoon build-up. From Holden Heights the campus is close enough that surface streets do the job and the interstate is optional.

SR-408 is a toll road, collected by transponder or by plate. Over a thirteen-week contract with shifts three or four days a week, a SunPass or E-PASS transponder is worth setting up in the first week; plate tolling works but costs more per trip. I-4 through downtown is free but carries the heaviest volume in the metro, and the express lanes are tolled separately.

Parking at the house is never the problem. Every home has a private driveway, carport or parking pad, so a night-shift clinician coming home at 8 a.m. pulls in and walks to the door, and a family with two cars is not hunting for street space. On the campus side, hospital parking arrangements are the hospital's to explain; ask your unit or your agency what applies to travelers.

The Orlando Health / Amtrak SunRail station on the campus edge connects north through downtown's LYNX Central and Church Street stations toward Winter Park and Sanford, and south toward Kissimmee. None of our homes is walkable to a station, but the downtown-edge homes are a short drive from LYNX Central, and a clinician who wants to leave the car parked on some days has that option.

For travel clinicians

A monthly agreement matched to a contract is the core of what we do. You get a written agreement naming the home, the dates, the rate and the deposit, and itemized monthly receipts your agency can process for a housing stipend or a reimbursement. If the agency prefers to be the party on the agreement, we write it that way. Extensions run month by month at the same terms; tell us as soon as a 13-week contract looks like becoming 26 and we will hold the following month where we can.

For the practical side of a contract, the homes are set up the way clinicians ask for. Laundry is in the house, so scrubs go straight into the machine. Kitchens are full kitchens with cookware and dishes. Wi-Fi is on from day one. Bedrooms are furnished with made-up beds; Game Day Getaway-Downtown Orlando adds blackout curtains, and the Amelia and Wekiwa houses each have a bedroom paired with its own bathroom, which helps two people on opposite shifts. Our travel nurse and medical housing page covers the stipend paperwork, the checklist before you book, and the homes for the other campuses in the metro.

For families of a patient

When someone you love is admitted for a long stay, a hotel room near the hospital becomes expensive and small very quickly. A house a few minutes away changes the shape of those weeks: relatives can rotate through without paying for a second room, meals can be cooked rather than bought, a child can have a bedroom and a yard, and the person doing the overnight vigil has somewhere quiet to sleep during the day.

Fruit Tree Home is about 5 minutes from the campus and suits a family of four. Game Day Getaway-Downtown Orlando, about 7 minutes away, has four bedrooms for a bigger family or one that is joined by grandparents for part of the stay. Both are booked by the month on the same written agreement we use for clinicians, and both extend month by month when a discharge date moves, which they often do. Nightly and weekly stays through the homes' Airbnb and Vrbo listings cover a shorter admission or a surgery with a known date.

We are careful with the words here because the situation is hard enough: we are a housing provider, not a hospital service, and we are not affiliated with Orlando Health. What we can do is answer the same day, confirm the rate and deposit in writing, and keep the terms flexible for a timeline that nobody controls. Our page on housing for patients' families and the guide on staying near the hospital when someone you love is admitted go further.

None of the homes has a pool; they are residential houses. Bed and bath counts are the counts in each home's own listing, and sofas are not counted as beds. Six homes publish a street address on the site, the 25th Street, Amelia, Dollins, Piedmont, Katherine and Head Avenue houses among them; for the others we publish the neighborhood and zip code and share the exact address at booking.

Living near the campus

Holden Heights and Parramore are the two neighborhoods closest to the campus, and both are covered in our downtown and close-in area guide. For groceries there is a Publix on South Orange Avenue near Holden Heights and the compact Publix at The Paramount on Lake Eola downtown; for a big weekly shop the Walmart Supercenter on West Princeton Street and the international grocers of Pine Hills are a short drive northwest. The Washington Shores homes are a few minutes from Nikki's Place on South Orange Blossom Trail, which has been serving soul food since 1999.

Lake Eola Park, a few minutes from the downtown-edge homes
Lake Eola Park, a few minutes from the downtown-edge homes

For time off, Lake Eola Park downtown has a roughly one-mile sidewalk loop, swan boats to rent and a Sunday farmers market; Lake Lorna Doone Park by Camping World Stadium has a walking loop, outdoor fitness stations and a splash pad; and the Downtown Orlando YMCA on North Mills Avenue is a full-service gym with two pools. College Park's Edgewater Drive, a short hop north, is where the independent cafes are, Foxtail Coffee and Cups & Pups among them. Pharmacies sit along Orange Blossom Trail and West Colonial, plus the Publix pharmacy at Lake Eola and the CVS and Walgreens downtown.

A car is the practical choice for most of these homes, but the downtown edge is the one part of Orlando where it can sit more than it moves: LYNX Central is the main bus hub, the free LYMMO bus circulates the core, and the two downtown SunRail stations connect the regional line.

Good to know

Common questions.

How far are the homes from Orlando Health / ORMC?

Between 5 and 18 minutes by road, depending on the home. The table on this page lists every home, and each home page has its own drive-time table.

Do you rent for a 13-week assignment?

Yes. Our homes are set up for monthly and multi-month stays, which covers a standard travel contract with room to extend.

Can I get a lease and receipts for my stipend?

Yes. We provide a written agreement and payment receipts you can submit to your agency for a housing stipend or reimbursement.

Can family of a patient stay with you?

Yes. Families keeping vigil for a long treatment often want a house near the campus with a kitchen and room for relatives. See our page on patient and family stays.

Is there a SunRail station at the campus?

Yes. The Orlando Health / Amtrak SunRail station sits on the edge of the downtown Orlando Health campus. None of our homes is walkable to a station, but the downtown-edge homes are a short drive from LYNX Central, so rail can cover part of a commute if you prefer it.

Which home is best for a night-shift clinician at ORMC?

Fruit Tree Home is the closest at about 5 minutes, and Game Day Getaway-Downtown Orlando, about 7 minutes away, has blackout curtains in the bedrooms. Both are on residential streets. If two of you keep different hours, Amelia’s Arena Retreat has a bedroom with its own attached bathroom.

Do the drive times account for rush hour?

No. They are typical road-routing times without traffic. Downtown is where traffic matters most, so add time for a 3 p.m. start or an evening return on I-4 or SR-408. The Holden Heights home is close enough to use surface streets.

Can a family stay near ORMC for a long admission?

Yes. Fruit Tree Home and Game Day Getaway-Downtown Orlando are booked by the month on the same written agreement we use for clinicians, and both extend month by month when a discharge date moves. For a short admission, nightly and weekly stays run through the homes' Airbnb and Vrbo listings.

Are you affiliated with Orlando Health?

No. Libema Properties is an independent housing provider. Orlando Health, ORMC, Arnold Palmer and Winnie Palmer are trademarks of their owner, and this page exists so their clinicians and patients' families can find housing nearby.
