A house on the north-west side for spring days at Wekiwa and Rock Springs
Two spring parks north-west of Orlando stay at spring temperature all year: Wekiwa Springs, with its swimming basin and kayak run, and Kelly Park at Rock Springs, where the run is for tubing. Our Hiawassee and Pine Hills homes are the closest.
01Wekiwa Springs & Kelly Park
Wekiwa Springs State Park, in Apopka, is the swimming hole Orlando keeps for itself: a clear spring basin that holds about seventy-two degrees year round, a canoe and kayak launch onto the Wekiva River, and trails through the sandhill and hammock. On hot weekends the park reaches capacity and closes its gate to new arrivals by late morning.
Kelly Park at Rock Springs, a little further north, is the tubing park: rent a tube, float the spring run down to the swimming area, walk back up and go again. It is a county park with the same capacity closures on busy days, and it is the classic Orlando summer morning for families.

- Arrive before the gates open on a summer weekend or go on a weekday; both parks close to new entries when full and post it on their sites.
- Bring water shoes and a dry bag; Rock Springs' run is rocky and shallow in places.
- Both parks charge a per-vehicle entry fee and neither has much shade at the water's edge; pack the umbrella.
