01Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts

The Dr. Phillips Center opened in 2014 on the south edge of downtown and completed Steinmetz Hall, its acoustic concert hall, in 2022. The Walt Disney Theater takes the touring Broadway season and the big-name comedians and musicians; the Alexis and Jim Pugh Theater takes the smaller runs; and Steinmetz Hall is home to the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and the concerts that need a real hall.

Orlando Ballet and Opera Orlando perform here through their seasons, and the plaza in front of the center hosts free outdoor events. It is a dressed-up night out in a city better known for theme parks, and the restaurants of Church Street and Thornton Park are within walking distance of the doors.

• The center has its own garage on Magnolia Avenue and the downtown garages are a block or two away; arrive early on Broadway nights.
• Steinmetz Hall is worth choosing on its own: the acoustics are the point.
